Patna: The Bihar government has initiated the land acquisition process for the construction of the Gorakhpur-Siliguri and Raxaul-Haldia expressways, state Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Nabin announced on Friday.
The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, stretching 476 kilometres within Bihar, will pass through eight districts: West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj. Approximately 2,941 hectares of land are to be acquired for the project, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) submitting formal requisitions to appoint Competent Authorities for Land Acquisition in each district.
The Raxaul-Haldia Expressway will run 407 kilometres across nine districts – East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger and Banka – requiring around 2,900 hectares of land. The NHAI has similarly requested the appointment of Competent Authorities to oversee land acquisition in these districts.
Minister Nabin emphasised that the state government is committed to completing land acquisition swiftly, deploying Assistant Land Acquisition Officers across all affected districts to expedite the process. “The land acquisition for these projects is expected to be completed within the next two months,” he said, adding that Bihar will provide all necessary support to the NHAI for the construction of both expressways.
The projects form part of a broader initiative to enhance connectivity in Bihar and the wider region, potentially reducing travel times and fostering economic development along the proposed corridors.
