Patna: After a nearly three-month hiatus, sand mining will resume across Bihar from October 16. The state’s Mines and Geology Department has identified around 300 ghats where mining operations are expected to restart this season.
These include both yellow and white sand ghats spread across various districts. Ahead of the resumption, the department has put in place strict surveillance measures to curb illegal mining, transportation, and sale. Drones and CCTV cameras will be deployed to ensure real-time monitoring of mining sites.
According to officials from the Mines and Geology Department, sand extraction was halted on June 15 due to the monsoon season. Prior to the suspension, legal mining activities were being carried out at 180 ghats, including 18 white sand sites.
During the monsoon period, the department focused on obtaining environmental clearances and completing the auction process for the remaining sand ghats, in line with government directives.
With sand mining set to resume, the department expects a significant boost in state revenue. “All necessary administrative and technical procedures have been finalized to ensure smooth and transparent mining operations,” a senior official said.
