Patna: The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) carried out raids on Wednesday morning targeting the premises of Pranav Kumar, executive engineer of electricity in Darbhanga, in connection with a case of disproportionate assets.
Kumar, who also holds additional charges in Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur, is accused of amassing illicit wealth far beyond his known sources of income. According to the SVU, he allegedly acquired assets worth about Rs 1.59 crore during his service.
The case has been registered under sections 13(1)(b), 13(2), and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. Investigators said Kumar had “illegally and intentionally” accumulated wealth through corrupt practices.
Acting on a warrant issued by the special judge for vigilance in Patna, simultaneous searches were conducted at Kumar’s offices and residences in Darbhanga, Bhagalpur and Patna. Officials said they expect to seize documents and records relating to financial transactions.
The raids come as political activity intensifies in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for November 6. While parties finalise their candidates, the vigilance unit has continued its operations across the state. The investigation against Kumar remains ongoing.
