Patna: Bihar’s political landscape has been jolted as BJP MLA Mishri Lal Yadav resigned from his post ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections, marking a significant setback for the party in the region.
Yadav, who represents the Alinagar constituency, reportedly stepped down amid fears of losing his ticket and growing uncertainty over his position within the party. His resignation comes against the backdrop of several criminal cases he is facing, which had reportedly created discontent within BJP ranks.
Speaking to the media following his resignation, Yadav criticised the party, saying, “The BJP is a party opposed to the poor and backward classes. I have always protected the dignity of the poor and backward classes. I am a person of socialist and secular ideology.”
He also claimed a central role in the NDA’s electoral success in Alinagar, stating, “The NDA won because of me. I was born into a Yadav family and through struggle, I rose from village head to MLA. I served as an MLC from Darbhanga twice and currently represent the Alinagar constituency.”
Mishrilal Yadav had won the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections on a VIP ticket before joining the BJP. His resignation has intensified speculation that he may now align with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), ahead of the crucial state elections.
