Gopalganj/Patna: Gopalganj police on Saturday seized Rs1 crore in cash in Thawe block in Gopalganj district. Acting on an undisclosed tip-off, the police raided a location in Kavilashpur village. The search resulted in the recovery and confiscation of a substantial amount of cash, totaling Rs1 crore.
Three people were detained in connection with the seizure, including a local gas mechanic, Santosh Prasad. Authorities have confirmed that the entire detained family is currently undergoing extensive questioning to ascertain the origins and intended use of the funds.
“The investigation is underway to determine where such a large sum of money came from and where it was being transported before the elections,” stated Varun Kumar Jha, Station House Officer. “Police headquarters has also begun monitoring the entire matter due to the magnitude of the seizure in the context of the forthcoming elections.”
Income Tax and Headquarters Monitoring

The timing and scale of the cash recovery have raised immediate red flags for potential illegal activities, including election-related financing or income tax evasion.
Following the seizure, the police promptly informed the Income Tax Department, which has initiated its own investigation into the matter. Along with the cash, police also confiscated several bank passbooks and other recovered documents, which are now being scrutinized by authorities for evidence of major financial or illegal transactions.
Police officials are maintaining a discreet silence on the details of the ongoing investigation, underscoring the seriousness of the case. The incident has caused considerable alarm in Kavilashpur village as authorities continue their probe to understand the full scope of the financial movement.
