Patna: Discussions regarding the electoral debut of Jyoti Singh, wife of the Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh, have intensified, with sources suggesting she is likely to contest as an independent candidate from the Karakat assembly constituency.
This potential move comes as a likely independent run, as the allocation of party symbols by most major political outfits has already been completed, eliminating the possibility of her contesting under a major party banner. The Jan Suraaj party has also already announced its candidate for the seat. Jyoti Singh’s frequent and conspicuous visits to Karakat have been a primary catalyst for the escalating political buzz.
A Contest with Personal Overtones
The backdrop to this political speculation involves a highly public and personal dispute between Jyoti Singh and her husband, Pawan Singh.
Jyoti Singh recently attracted widespread media attention after she appeared live on social media, tearfully alleging that Pawan Singh was preventing her entry into his Lucknow home and had called the police to remove her. The viral video, which saw Jyoti insisting on her right to stay with the actor, garnered significant sympathy on social media, leading many users to criticize the Bhojpuri star.
Pawan Singh, however, quickly presented a counter-narrative to the incident via a post on his own social media account. In his Facebook post, he addressed Jyoti Singh directly, questioning her motivations. Pawan Singh wrote, “I know only one thing in my life: the public is God to me. Will I hurt the sentiments of all of you, the people who have helped me reach this position?”
He then made a crucial allegation regarding her political ambitions: “Jyoti Singh, isn’t it true that when you came to my society yesterday morning, I respectfully invited you to my house, and we talked for about 1:30 hours. Your only insistence is to get me to contest the elections, no matter what, which is beyond my control.”
It is noteworthy that Pawan Singh himself previously contested from Karakat as an independent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. While Jyoti Singh is yet to officially confirm her nomination, her movements and the high-profile social media controversy suggest a political contest with unusual personal drama.
