Patna: Anticipating a surge in passenger traffic during Chhath Puja, the Danapur Railway Division has announced a series of measures to manage the expected crowds and ensure safety at Patna Junction and nearby stations.
From October 24 to November 2, the main parking lot at Patna Junction will remain closed to all vehicles. The move, officials said, is aimed at facilitating smoother passenger movement in and around the station premises during one of Bihar’s busiest festive periods.
“Passenger traffic at Patna Junction and surrounding areas rises sharply during Chhath Puja. To ensure crowd control and smooth movement, the main parking area has been temporarily closed,” said Abhinav Siddharth, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) of the Danapur Division.
The railway administration has issued clear directives to the parking contractors. Of the two parking areas serving vehicles bound for the Mahavir Temple, only the new parking lot near the GPO on the western side will remain operational. The Karbighhia-side parking and the western-side lot will also stay open for vehicles.
Special arrangements for passengers
To handle the influx of devotees and travellers, the Danapur Division has set up multiple holding areas across key stations. Patna Junction will have three holding zones capable of accommodating 7,500 passengers. Danapur Junction will operate two holding areas, each with a 4,500-passenger capacity, while Rajendra Nagar Terminal has been equipped with a facility for 1,200 passengers.
Each area has been fitted with CCTV cameras, “May I Help You” desks, drinking water, first aid units, public announcement systems, train information displays, and mobile ticketing facilities to assist passengers during the festive rush.
