Patna: In a dramatic political development ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled four of its leaders, including sitting MLA Pawan Yadav, for rebelling against the party’s official candidates. The move comes as the BJP seeks to enforce internal discipline amid growing dissent over ticket allocations.
According to a statement issued by BJP Bihar headquarters in-charge Arvind Sharma, the four leaders — Pawan Yadav (Kahalgaon), Varun Singh (assembly candidate), Anup Kumar Srivastava (Gopalganj), and Surya Bhan Singh (Barhara) — have been expelled for six years. The party cited “anti-party activities” as the reason for the expulsion, stating that each of them decided to contest the election independently after being denied tickets.
The letter from the party headquarters accused the leaders of tarnishing the party’s image and violating organizational discipline. “Your actions have damaged the party’s reputation and defied collective decisions. Therefore, you are expelled from the BJP for a period of six years,” the statement read.
The BJP’s action follows similar disciplinary measures taken by its ally, the Janata Dal (United), which recently expelled several leaders for rebellion. Political analysts say these expulsions underscore the turbulence within both NDA partners as they finalize their candidate lists for the 2025 Bihar elections.
