Katihar: A video showing police officers allegedly misbehaving with a brother and sister at a restaurant in Bihar’s Katihar district has gone viral on social media, forcing authorities to initiate disciplinary action.
The incident reportedly took place on the evening of October 24 at a restaurant in Barsoi, where the local Station House Officer (SHO) Ramchandra Mandal allegedly confronted a young man, Yash Agarwal, and his sister. According to Yash, “We had gone to a restaurant for dinner when the Barsoi SO arrived with his team and began mistreating us without reason.
In the viral clip, Yash can be seen sitting with his sister when the SHO questions their relationship. On being told she is his sister, the officer allegedly responds angrily, saying, “Why are you speaking so forcefully? Your tone is not appropriate,” leading to a heated argument.
After the video spread rapidly online, the Katihar Police confirmed that a show-cause notice has been issued to the officer in question. “The Barsoi police station chief has been asked to explain his conduct. If his response is unsatisfactory, departmental action will be recommended,” said DSP Ajay Kumar.
According to the police, the SHO had gone to the restaurant after receiving reports of “anti-social elements” in the area. However, the situation reportedly escalated when he began questioning patrons in an aggressive manner.
