Indian Railways Runs Over 90 Special Trains from Bihar to Major Cities After Chhath Festival

Indian Railways deploys over 90 special trains from Bihar to major cities across India to manage the post-Chhath travel rush.

Patna: As devotees conclude the Chhath festival, Indian Railways has announced a series of special trains from Bihar to major cities across India, aiming to manage the expected surge in passenger traffic. Services will operate from key stations including Patna, Barauni, Saharsa, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, and Rajgir to metropolitan hubs such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

Trains to New Delhi and Northern India
Several trains have been scheduled to connect Bihar with the national capital and northern cities:

  • Patna–Anand Vihar Special (02391) departs Patna at 22:20 every Saturday until November 29, arriving at Anand Vihar at 18:30 the next day.
  • Patna–Anand Vihar Special (04089) leaves Patna at 18:20 every Saturday until November 30, reaching Anand Vihar at 14:50 the following day.
  • Patna–New Delhi Special (02251) runs on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 10:00 until November 16, arriving at 23:30 the same day.
  • Patna–New Delhi Special (02253) departs Patna at 10:00 every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday until November 17, reaching New Delhi at 23:30.
  • Patna–Hazrat Nizamuddin Special (04093) leaves Patna daily at 07:45 until November 30, arriving at 00:45 the next day.
  • Rajendra Nagar–Anand Vihar Special (02309) departs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 23:05 until November 14, reaching Anand Vihar at 16:00 the following day.

Additional services connect Rajgir, Danapur, Patliputra, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Jaynagar, Darbhanga, Mansi, Hasanpur Road, Saharsa, and Purnia Court to northern destinations including Haridwar, Chandigarh, Firozpur, and New Delhi.

Trains to Eastern India
Special trains are also operational to Puri, Howrah, and Kolkata:

  • Patna–Puri Special (03230) departs at 08:45 every Thursday until December 25, arriving at 05:00 the next day.
  • Patna–Puri Special (08440) leaves Patna at 13:30 every Sunday until November 30, reaching Puri at 09:45 the following day.
  • Patna–Howrah Special (02024) departs at 05:30 every Sunday until November 16, reaching Howrah at 13:25.
  • Patna–Sealdah Special (03136) leaves at 17:15 every Sunday until November 16, arriving at Sealdah at 06:00 the next day.
  • Raxaul–Howrah Special (03044) departs at 17:45 every Sunday until November 16, arriving at 10:50 the following day.
  • Madhubani–Kolkata Special (03188) departs at 15:30 every Wednesday until November 26, arriving at 05:15 the next day.

Trains to South India
For travelers heading to Bengaluru, Mysore, Hubballi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Madurai, Tirupati, Ernakulam, and Coimbatore, Indian Railways has launched long-distance specials:

  • Danapur–SMVB Bengaluru Specials (03251, 03259, 03245, 03247, 03241) depart on various days at 15:00, reaching Bengaluru after two to three days.
  • Darbhanga–Yeshwantpur Special (03261) departs at 10:00 every Saturday until December 27, arriving at 21:30 on the third day.
  • Darbhanga–Mysore Special (06212) leaves at 15:45 every Saturday until December 27, reaching Yeshwantpur on the fourth day.
  • Muzaffarpur–Hubballi Special (05543, 07316) departs Fridays and Thursdays, arriving after three to four days.
  • Raxaul–Hubballi Special (07358) departs Tuesdays, arriving on the fourth day.
  • Patna–Ernakulam Special (06086) departs Mondays, arriving on the fourth day at 10:30.

Other trains serve Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, and Tirupati, ensuring widespread connectivity from Bihar to southern India.

Trains to Western India
Special trains are also available to Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh:

  • Raxaul–Udhna Special (05559) departs at 05:30 every Saturday until December 27, arriving the next day at 12:35.
  • Raxaul–Vatva (Ahmedabad) Special (05561) leaves at 11:20 every Tuesday until December 30, reaching 20:00 the next day.
  • Danapur–Valsad Special (09026) departs at 14:30 every Tuesday until December 30, arriving at 21:30.
  • Patna–Dr Ambedkar Nagar Special (09344) departs at 20:20 every Friday until December 26, arriving at 23:20 the next day.
  • Patna–Jhansi Special (04184) leaves at 10:15 every Thursday until November 20, reaching at 03:20 the next day.

Additional services connect Patna to Jodhpur, Sabarmati, and Udhna, as well as Jaynagar and Samastipur to western India.
