Patna: Bihar continues to reel under the impact of Cyclone Montha, with heavy rainfall lashing several districts since Thursday night. Patna, Buxar and parts of western Bihar witnessed persistent downpours on Friday morning, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue fresh warnings for multiple regions.
According to the IMD, heavy rain alerts have been issued for four districts — Bhojpur, Bettiah, Buxar, and Kishanganj — with a broader warning for 24 districts, including Patna, over the next 24 hours. The weather office has also forecast winds reaching speeds of up to 65 km/h, accompanied by lightning and thunder. The current spell of rain is expected to continue through the weekend, with conditions likely to stabilise only after November 3.

Meteorologists have warned that the persistent rainfall may trigger a drop in daytime temperatures, bringing a noticeable chill across the state. The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as isolated incidents of waterlogging and thunderstorm activity are expected.
The effects of Cyclone Montha have also extended beyond India’s borders. Neighbouring Nepal is experiencing the brunt of the storm, with snowfall and heavy rains reported across 26 districts. Authorities there have issued alerts for floods and landslides, underscoring the cyclone’s regional impact.
In Bihar, forecasters say that humidity will persist for a few days after the rains subside. However, temperatures are likely to fall gradually as northwesterly winds strengthen by early November, potentially leading to cold wave-like conditions in some areas.
Residents have been urged to stay indoors during heavy rain and lightning, and local administrations have been put on alert to respond to weather-related emergencies.
