Saran: A major accident was narrowly avoided in Saran district on Monday morning when a fire broke out in an AC coach of the Darbhanga-bound Clone Special train (02570). The train, which was travelling from New Delhi to Darbhanga, caught fire near Daudpur railway station, creating panic among passengers. Thanks to the quick response of alert railway staff and local residents, the flames were brought under control before they could spread, and no injuries or casualties were reported.
The incident took place around 7:40am when smoke and sparks were seen coming from the wheel area of coach B-7. A gateman posted near Daudpur station noticed the problem and immediately informed the station master, Firoz Khana. Acting swiftly, Khana alerted the railway control room and instructed that the train be stopped immediately. The train was halted at Daudpur station at 7:42am, and firefighting efforts began right away. Railway employees used extinguishers and water to control the flames while passengers were safely evacuated.
As smoke spread inside the coach, panic broke out among passengers. Many rushed out of their seats and onto the platform, fearing for their safety. However, due to the calm handling of the situation by railway staff and the help of local people, the crowd was soon brought under control. Within about 30 minutes, the fire was completely extinguished, and a major disaster was prevented. Witnesses praised the teamwork and courage of the railway staff, whose quick thinking saved the lives of hundreds of passengers.
After the fire was brought under control, the train remained at the station for inspection. Technical teams checked all the coaches to ensure safety before allowing the train to continue its journey. The train later departed for Darbhanga at around 8:10am. During this time, railway authorities made arrangements for drinking water and assistance for passengers waiting at the station.
According to a statement from the Northeast Railway, the initial cause of the fire appears to be brake binding or technical friction in the wheels of the bogie. However, an investigation has been ordered to determine the exact reason. Officials have also directed special inspections of AC coaches across all routes to prevent such incidents in the future. The railway administration praised the vigilance of the gateman and the prompt action of Daudpur station staff, saying their quick response helped avert a potential tragedy.
