Patna: Bihar continues to swelter under a prolonged heat wave, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) extending orange and yellow alerts for several districts, including Jamui, Bhagalpur, Banka, Aurangabad, and Gaya, among others, on Thursday. The relentless heatwave has persisted for over a week, with no respite expected until May 3, according to meteorological forecasts.
The scorching conditions have not only prevailed during daylight hours but have also persisted into the night, exacerbating discomfort for residents across the state.
Wednesday saw nine districts grappling with heatwave conditions, with six districts experiencing dangerously high temperatures, categorized as severe heatwave. Sheikhpura recorded the highest temperature at 42.9 degrees Celsius.
While the IMD anticipates a marginal decrease of 2-3 degrees in maximum temperatures over the next three days, the forecast suggests that heatwave-like conditions will persist, maintaining the prevalence of extreme heat.
In response to the ongoing heatwave, the health department has issued continuous alerts, urging all hospitals to remain on high alert. Special directives have been issued to civil surgeons and medical officers to ensure preparedness to address any heat-related health emergencies.
Furthermore, the IMD has issued a specific advisory for farmers, advising them to defer agricultural activities between 10 am and 4 pm due to the anticipated hot weather and the risk of heatwaves.
As Bihar grapples with the relentless heat, authorities remain vigilant, prioritizing public health and safety amidst the challenging weather conditions.
