Patna: Bihar residents grappling with sweltering heat and a relentless heatwave may soon find respite as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a dramatic weather change in the coming hours. Issuing warnings of storms, rain, and lightning across the state, the department anticipates these conditions to manifest within the next 24 hours, heralding a shift in the weather pattern.
From May 6 to 11, many districts in Bihar are likely to experience drizzles, thundershowers, and thunderstorms, prompting the Patna Meteorological Center to issue a detailed advisory. Urging caution amidst adverse weather conditions, authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant.
According to Saturday’s bulletin, the flow of easterly winds has begun to intensify in eastern Bihar, with expectations of increased moisture content throughout the state. Consequently, light to moderate rainfall is forecasted in most regions next week, accompanied by the possibility of lightning and storms in certain areas.
A yellow alert has been raised in several districts, including Munger, Jamui, and Bhagalpur, cautioning residents of gusts reaching 30 to 40 kilometers per hour on Sunday. Meanwhile, hot conditions are expected to persist in Patna and other districts of North and South Bihar.
Subsequently, from May 6 to 11, a state-wide alert for storms, rain, and lightning has been issued, promising a swift reduction in maximum temperatures and a welcome relief from the scorching heat. However, citizens are advised to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions.
The advisory further advises farmers to secure harvested crops safely and avoid seeking refuge under trees or pillars during inclement weather. Vulnerable structures, such as tin sheds and huts, may be at risk of damage, emphasizing the importance of seeking shelter in sturdy buildings during storms.
