Patna: As voting for both phases of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 concluded, political attention has turned to 15 high-profile constituencies where strongmen or their family members are contesting. Results for all 243 seats will be announced on November 14, but these 15 seats have drawn particular interest due to their history of muscle power, caste dynamics, and legacy politics.

According to on-ground reports and a “Reporters’ Poll” compiled after discussions with journalists, political experts, and sociologists, eight of these strongmen are contesting on NDA tickets, while the remaining eight are representing the Mahagathbandhan.

Among the most-watched contests are Mokama, where Anant Singh faces Suraj Bhan Singh’s wife Veena Devi, Danapur, where Ritlal Yadav takes on Ramkripal Yadav, and Raghunathpur, where Osama Shahab, son of the late Shahabuddin, is fighting for the RJD.

1. Anant Singh Leads in Mokama

The Mokama seat in Patna district, often in the news since the Dularchand Yadav murder case, is seeing Anant Singh (JD(U)) leading over Veena Devi (RJD). Despite being in jail, Singh’s Robin Hood image and consolidated Bhumihar vote appear to be helping him retain his edge.

2. Close Contest Between Ritlal and Ramkripal in Danapur

In Danapur, strongman Ritlal Yadav (RJD) faces Ramkripal Yadav (BJP). Ritlal’s daughter’s participation in the campaign has generated sympathy votes, while Lalu Prasad Yadav’s roadshow has consolidated Yadav-Muslim support. With 2.75 lakh voters, the seat is witnessing a neck-and-neck fight.

3. Amarendra Kumar (Pappu Pandey) Ahead in Kuchaikot

Six-time MLA Amarendra Kumar alias Pappu Pandey (JD(U)) is leading over Harinarayan Singh (Congress). Despite being accused in 14 criminal cases, Pandey enjoys the backing of Nitish Kumar loyalists and holds sway among upper castes, while Harinarayan Singh’s newness limits his traction.

4. Randhir Singh Leads in Manjhi

Randhir Singh (JD(U)), son of strongman Prabhunath Singh, is leading against Satyendra Yadav (CPM). The Rajput-dominated constituency, coupled with anti-incumbency against the sitting MLA, seems to be giving Randhir an advantage.

5. Hulas Pandey Trails in Brahmapur

Once accused in the Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Mukhiya’s murder, Hulas Pandey (LJP-R) is trailing Shambhu Nath Yadav (RJD). The Yadav-Muslim-Dalit coalition, forming about 40% of the electorate, is favoring RJD, while Hulas struggles with limited upper-caste support.

6. Shrikant Yadav Leads in Ekma

Shrikant Yadav (RJD), who defeated JD(U)’s candidate in 2020, is leading again over Manoranjan Singh Dhumal (JD(U)) — a candidate with over 150 criminal cases. Yadav’s strong backing among Yadav, Muslim, and Dalit voters is proving decisive.

7. Bima Bharti Maintains Edge in Rupauli

Veteran leader Bima Bharti (RJD) leads in her long-standing rivalry with Shankar Singh (Independent). With Gangota, Muslim, and Yadav voters forming her strong base, Bharti seems set to extend her dominance in Rupauli.

8. Prashant Vishal Ahead in Tarari

Prashant Vishal (BJP), son of former strongman Sunil Pandey, maintains a lead over Madan Chandravanshi (CPI-ML). Projects worth ₹900 crore initiated locally and consolidated upper-caste votes have helped Vishal retain ground in the Bhumihar-dominated Tarari seat.

9. Osama Shahab Leads in Raghunathpur

RJD’s Osama Shahab, son of the late Shahabuddin, is ahead of Vikas Kumar Singh (JD(U)). Despite being targeted by top BJP leaders during the campaign, Osama has benefited from a sympathy wave and a consolidated Muslim-Yadav alliance.

10. Vibha Devi Trails in Nawada

In Nawada, a contest between two political families — Vibha Devi (JD(U)) and Kaushal Yadav (RJD) — leans in favor of Kaushal. A divided Bhumihar vote due to an independent candidate and strong rural support for RJD are key factors.

11. Chetan Anand Leads in Nabinagar

Chetan Anand (JD(U)), son of Anand Mohan, is ahead of Amod Chandravanshi (RJD). His Rajput identity and backing from his mother, MP Lovely Anand, have strengthened his campaign, while rebel dissidence has largely subsided.

12. Anita Devi Ahead in Warisliganj

Anita Devi (RJD), wife of strongman Ashok Mahto, is leading against Aruna Devi (BJP). Anti-incumbency against Aruna and the withdrawal of the Congress candidate at the last moment have helped Anita consolidate backward caste votes.

13. Shivani Shukla Trails in Lalganj

Shivani Shukla (RJD), daughter of Munna Shukla, is trailing Sanjay Singh (BJP). Singh’s development record and a united Rajput-Koeri-EBC vote bank are keeping him ahead. Shivani faces a setback from a divided Bhumihar vote.

14. Shahnawaz Alam Leads in Jokihat

Shahnawaz Alam (RJD), son of Taslimuddin, is leading against his brother Sarfaraz Alam (Jan Suraaj). Splintered votes between AIMIM and JD(U) are working in Shahnawaz’s favor, keeping him ahead in this family face-off.

15. Karanveer Singh Trails in Barh

In Barh, BJP’s Dr. Siyaram Singh is leading against Karanveer Singh alias Lallu Mukhiya (RJD). The constituency’s Rajput dominance and Karanveer’s poor local image have tilted the race towards the NDA.

Political Legacy Meets New Voter Dynamics

With Bihar recording its highest-ever voter turnout of 67%, caste arithmetic and family legacies continue to define several constituencies. However, experts suggest that a new pattern — shaped by women voters, welfare schemes, and rural development — is gradually transforming traditional strongman bastions.
