Patna: Nitish Kumar has been re-elected as the leader of the Janata Dal (United) legislative party, clearing the way for him to form the next government in Bihar. The JD(U) legislative party meeting at the chief minister’s residence concluded earlier today with Kumar’s election.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders also held a meeting, and the BJP legislative party is currently selecting its leader. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) legislative party is scheduled to meet at 3:30pm in the Central Hall of the Legislative Assembly, where MLAs from all five NDA parties are expected to officially elect Kumar as their leader. Following the meeting, he will submit his resignation as chief minister of the current government to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and stake his claim to form a new administration.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at 11:30am at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. NDA MLAs will also take the oath as ministers alongside Kumar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other senior leaders are expected to attend the event.
Probable Cabinet Appointments
While the final list of ministers is yet to be confirmed, reports suggest that potential appointees from the JD(U) include Vijay Choudhary, Bijendra Yadav, Shravan Kumar, Ashok Choudhary, Lesy Singh, Jama Khan, Madan Sahni, Jayant Raj, Maheshwar Hazari, Umesh Kushwaha, Santosh Nirala, Shalini Mishra, Manjeet Singh, and Bulo Mandal.
From the BJP quota, possible ministers include Samrat Choudhary, Nitin Nabin, Mangal Pandey, Manoj Sharma, Rajneesh Kumar, Rama Nishad, Renu Devi, and Nitish Mishra. Additionally, Santosh Manjhi of HAM, Snehlata Kushwaha (wife of Upendra Kushwaha), and Raju Tiwari of the LJP (Ram Vilas) are also likely candidates.
