Patna: Sanjay Paswan, a first-time MLA from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), has been appointed a minister in the new Bihar cabinet, in a move widely viewed as a direct endorsement from party chief Chirag Paswan, whom he has long supported through periods of internal turmoil. The decision has sidelined state party president Raju Tiwari, considered one of the frontrunners for a berth.
Sanjay, born in 1974 in Pokhariya, Begusarai, comes from a financially modest background. After graduating, he entered politics in 2015 through the LJP, starting with organisational work and moving steadily up the ranks to positions such as district president.
His unflinching support for Chirag Paswan—particularly during factional rifts that reshaped the party—strengthened his credibility within the leadership. This loyalty played a pivotal role in his selection as the party’s candidate from Bakhri, despite objections from some local workers.
His induction into the cabinet is now being interpreted across party circles as the culmination of that loyalty: a political reward and a signal of the influence Chirag Paswan retains in shaping the LJP (Ram Vilas) leadership lineup.
