Patna: The Bihar government has issued a notification for the acquisition of 161.01 acres of land for the construction of a rail-cum-road corridor connected to the proposed Pirpainti Power Plant in Bhagalpur district.
According to the District Land Acquisition Office, the notification was issued after completing the statutory process, including public hearings, investigation and the disposal of objections raised by affected landowners.
Land To Be Acquired Across Seven Revenue Villages
The acquisition will cover land in seven mauzas in the Pirpainti block and affect 501 landowners.
The largest share of land will be acquired from Basantpur, where 65.992 acres belonging to 191 landowners have been identified, followed by Harinkol with 56.4686 acres involving 165 landowners.
The remaining land will be acquired from Khidarpur (17.475 acres; 69 landowners), Imamnagar (10.2269 acres; 24 landowners), Kakarghat (7.1906 acres; 31 landowners), Chaudhary Basantpur (2.0969 acres; 13 landowners) and Maheshram (1.56 acres; 8 landowners).
Compensation To Be Provided Under Land Acquisition Law
The Land Acquisition Office said the project is not expected to result in the displacement of families.
Officials stated that all affected landowners will receive compensation and other statutory benefits in accordance with the provisions of the applicable land acquisition and rehabilitation laws.
Five-Kilometre Corridor Planned
According to the project blueprint, the proposed corridor will be 5 km long and 120 metres wide.
It will extend from Lakshmipur Horang Halt in Pirpainti to Sundarpur village. The railway line will primarily be used to transport coal to the power plant, while the adjoining road will be accessible to both the public and power plant vehicles.
Social Impact Assessment Highlights Economic Benefits
The project’s Social Impact Assessment (SIA) report states that the power plant and transport corridor are expected to generate employment during both the construction and operational phases.
The report also says the new road is expected to improve access to markets, educational institutions and healthcare services for nearby rural areas. It further projects that additional power generation could strengthen electricity supply and support industrial and commercial development in the Anga region, including Bhagalpur.
