Patna/Aurangabad: A special team of the Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) carried out simultaneous raids on Sunday at four locations linked to Anil Kumar Azad, the excise superintendent of Aurangabad district, in connection with a disproportionate assets case. Officers from Patna searched his residence, office and other properties for nearly five hours.
Acting on a search warrant issued by a special Vigilance judge, teams were deployed in Patna, Aurangabad and Jehanabad. They examined documents, bank records and property details from morning until late afternoon at Azad’s official residence and office at the district headquarters, as well as properties registered in his name in Jehanabad and Patna.
According to the Vigilance Bureau, Azad is accused of amassing assets worth about Rs 1.58 crore—allegedly far exceeding his known sources of income. The case was registered after a complaint was submitted to the bureau.
DIG Vigilance Sudhir Kumar, who supervised the operation, said searches at all four locations have been completed. He said preliminary findings indicate that Azad holds assets “many times more than his legitimate income”. Several documents were seized during the raids, and officials are currently preparing inventory lists.
The Vigilance Headquarters is expected to issue a detailed press note on the materials recovered and the next steps in the investigation. Legal proceedings in the case are under way.
