Patna: Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, met with India’s Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, in New Delhi on Thursday in a meeting that has sparked speculation over imminent political developments in the state. The half-hour discussion, held behind closed doors, reportedly focused on issues of state development and law and order.
Choudhary, who also holds the portfolio for Bihar’s Home Department, met Shah at a crucial juncture for both the state and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The meeting comes in the context of the party’s first control of the Home Department in Bihar in two decades, following the portfolio’s shift from the Janata Dal (United) and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to the BJP.

Reports suggest that the leaders discussed sensitive and strategic matters, with the central government taking a keen interest in Bihar’s internal security, particularly in the Seemanchal region, where concerns over illegal infiltration have previously been raised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah. Analysts believe that Choudhary may have received specific directives and new responsibilities from the central leadership.
The meeting also coincides with the BJP’s preparations for the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. Given the shared borders between Bihar, Bengal, and Bangladesh, observers are interpreting the meeting as having broader political implications beyond the state.

Since the party’s decisive victory in Bihar, the BJP has implemented its so-called “bulldozer model” of governance, with encounters and demolition drives reportedly commencing immediately after the departmental reshuffle on November 21. Rapid actions are reported across multiple districts, signalling a period of heightened enforcement.
Political commentators suggest that Bihar could witness further major decisions in the coming days, similar to swift measures taken in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, and Delhi following recent state government formations. The outcome of Thursday’s meeting has intensified speculation over whether the next phase will focus on law-and-order actions or target specific infiltrator settlements in Seemanchal.
