Patna: The Bihar Legislative Assembly is set to convene its first session of the 18th Assembly on December 1, with authorities putting in place extensive security, traffic, and logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth start.
A high-level review meeting on Friday, chaired by Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh, assessed preparations for the session. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary was also in attendance.
The meeting confirmed that newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) will be sworn in on December 1, followed by the election of a new Speaker on December 2. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan is scheduled to address a joint sitting of both Houses in the Central Hall on December 3. A debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, along with the government’s response, will take place on December 4. On December 5, the Assembly will discuss the second supplementary expenditure statement, and the corresponding Appropriation Bill will be introduced.
Choudhary emphasised that the government is committed to ensuring that all legislative responsibilities are met efficiently and that newly elected members face no difficulties during the session.
The review meeting was attended by senior officials, including Home Secretary Pranav Kumar, Additional Director General of Police Dr Kamal Kishore Singh, Director of Information and Public Relations Vaibhav Srivastava, Patna District Magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan S.M., Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma, Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, and Assembly and Legislative Council secretaries.
