Patna: Bihar’s aggressive anti-mafia campaign has entered a new phase, with the state government preparing a fresh list of 1,200 suspected mafia operatives. The move comes after the earlier identification of 400 individuals, signalling a sweeping crackdown under Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary.
Speaking at a massive Workers’ Honour Ceremony in Patna’s Kumhrar, Choudhary issued an unequivocal warning: “Property भी ज़ब्त होगी, जेल भी होगी.” He reiterated that the government will not spare any of the three major syndicates that have long plagued the state — land mafia, liquor mafia and sand mafia.
Choudhary said the state is ready to seek court orders to ensure arrests and asset seizures of those on the list. He credited party workers for the NDA’s landslide victory, saying the mandate reflects public demand for stronger law and order.
Law and order to be tightened
Choudhary announced that the government would expand CCTV surveillance across Bihar and enforce stricter policing. He added that two mafia cases have already received court approval for confiscation proceedings, with more action to follow.
He also warned that abusive behaviour on social media will attract police action, stating that governance, anti-mafia operations and speedy trials remain the government’s top priorities.
Jail corruption under scrutiny
In a stern message to prison authorities, Choudhary said the state would crack down on the supply of unauthorised food and mobile phones inside jails. He said food from outside would only be allowed with a doctor’s approval, and irregularities will trigger immediate action.
Anti-Romeo squad to be deployed
To prevent harassment around schools and colleges, the government will deploy the Pink Mobile Unit, an anti-Romeo squad monitoring high-risk zones during opening and closing hours. Strict action, he said, will follow against any offenders.
