Patna: East Central Railway (ECR) has announced a major winter schedule overhaul, suspending or curtailing several long-distance trains for three months in anticipation of dense fog across North India. The measures, aimed at ensuring passenger safety, will be in force from December 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026.
Railway officials said the decision was taken because dense fog routinely disrupts visibility during winter, severely affecting train movement and increasing the risk of accidents. As a precaution, the Railways will completely cancel 24 pairs of long-distance trains in a phased manner starting December 1.
Trains to be fully cancelled
The following services will not operate during the fog period:
- Prayagraj–Muzaffarpur Express
- Veerangana Laxmibai Jhansi–Kolkata Express
- Upasana Express
- Malda Town–New Delhi Express
- Harihar Express
- Janseva Express
- Dibrugarh–Chandigarh Express
- Kamakhya–Gaya Express
- Kamakhya–Anand Vihar Express
- Hatia–Anand Vihar Express
- Santragachi–Anand Vihar Express
- Tatanagar–Amritsar Express
Trains with reduced frequency or partial cancellations
Several other services will run fewer days or face intermittent cancellations:
- Gwalior–Barauni Express
- Ajmer–Sealdah Express
- Howrah–Kathgodam Bagh Express
- Kolkata–Amritsar Express
- Garib Rath Express
- North East Express
- Sikkim Mahananda Express
- New Jalpaiguri–New Delhi Express
- Awadh Assam Express
- Express trains on the Patliputra–Lucknow and Patliputra–Gorakhpur routes
Railway officials said the seasonal fog makes it necessary to reduce operations for safety, as trains often need to run at restricted speeds, leading to cascading delays and operational hazards.
Passengers have been advised to check updated schedules and plan their journeys accordingly. The Railways is expected to release detailed cancellation calendars and alternative travel arrangements in the coming days.
