Patna: A 20-year-old man in Patna has died by suicide, prompting police to open an investigation into alleged domestic harassment within the marriage. The incident was reported from Janipur, where the couple had been living in a rented home.
Syed Alam, originally from Adampur Piplavan Nisasi, married Sadia Praveen of Murgiyachak a year ago in what relatives described as a love marriage. According to police, the relationship had become strained over the past months, with frequent disputes reported between the pair.
Janipur police station officials said Alam was found dead on Wednesday. His family later lodged a complaint accusing his wife of harassment and creating sustained pressure within the marriage.
Police recovered a diary from the house which, officers said, contained notes outlining personal plans written by Alam’s wife. Investigators added that Alam had been working as a labourer and may have been experiencing financial stress, though they emphasised that inquiries are ongoing and no conclusions have been drawn.
The body has been sent for postmortem examination. Police have arrested the wife as part of the investigation, which remains in its early stages.
Officials urged the public to avoid speculation until the inquiry is completed.
