Patna: Winter chill has tightened its grip on Bihar, with minimum temperatures dipping rapidly across the state in the past 24 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, dry and chilly northwesterly winds are pushing down nighttime temperatures, and the cold is expected to intensify further in the coming days.
Sabour in Bhagalpur recorded the lowest minimum temperature on Thursday night at 8.3°C, making it the coldest location in the state. Meteorologists said higher-than-normal wind speeds are adding to the discomfort, especially during late evenings and early mornings.
Fog to Impact Visibility in Major Cities
Weather officials have clarified that Bihar is not experiencing a cold wave yet. However, night temperatures will continue falling, particularly in the northern and central districts. Light fog is likely in the morning over the plains, with dense fog conditions expected next week.
Visibility may drop during early hours, impacting road travel in cities such as Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga. The department has advised people to exercise caution during morning commuting and essential travel.
Patna Temperature Likely to Be Below Normal
The capital city is also experiencing a heightened chill due to westerly winds. The minimum temperature in Patna is expected to settle between 9°C and 10°C over the next 24 hours, nearly two degrees below the seasonal average. Day temperatures are also likely to remain slightly lower than normal.
Residents in several districts were seen lighting bonfires to keep warm as temperatures continue to slide.
Weather scientists said the cold conditions would persist for at least the upcoming week, and people should take necessary precautions to stay safe during early morning and late-night hours.
