Patna: Patna Traffic police has introduced a new and stricter parking system from Sunday to control the growing traffic problems in the central parts of the city. The traffic police have completely banned parking of three-wheelers and four-wheelers along two major stretches of the city: from the Income Tax roundabout to Dakbungalow Square, and from Buddha Marg to below the GPO roundabout. These routes face constant jams, and officials say the step is necessary to keep traffic movement smoother and quicker.
To make sure people have proper parking options, the administration has arranged multi-level parking facilities nearby. Private cars going towards Buddha Marg or the ISKCON Temple must now use the smart multi-level parking in front of the Planetarium, which can hold 96 vehicles. Three-wheelers have been directed to the multi-modal parking zone, and visitors to the Mauryalok Complex have been asked to use the multi-level parking facility located inside Mauryalok.
The traffic police have issued a clear warning that no vehicle should be parked on these two routes under any circumstances. If anyone parks illegally, strict penalty action will be taken. Officials have also urged citizens to support the new rules, saying these changes have been introduced to reduce jams in crowded locations and ensure that daily travel becomes safer and more comfortable.
To strengthen enforcement, the city has activated more than 3,300 CCTV cameras to monitor traffic in real time. Smart City Limited has installed 2,602 standard CCTV cameras, 473 red light violation cameras, 150 number plate recognition cameras, 12 speed violation cameras and 120 vehicle detection cameras across several important points. These advanced systems will help authorities take quick action against illegal parking, rash driving, overspeeding and unauthorised bus or auto stops.
District magistrate Dr Thyagarajan SM has ordered the District Transport Officer, Upendra Pal, to use this high-tech monitoring system to identify offenders and ensure that challans are issued automatically. He has directed all related departments to conduct regular special drives against illegal parking and dangerous driving behaviour. The administration believes these measures will significantly reduce congestion and improve traffic flow across Patna.
