Patna: Air travel in Patna is set for continued disruption on Tuesday, with 24 IndiGo flights to and from Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport cancelled amid the airline’s ongoing operational crisis. Twelve departures and twelve arrivals have been withdrawn, marking one of the most severe single-day schedule cuts since IndiGo’s services were first affected on December 3.
The largest impact will be felt on the Hyderabad route, where four pairs of flights have been suspended. Three Delhi services, two Bengaluru connections, and one each to Chennai, Ghaziabad and Kolkata will also remain cancelled. Passengers booked on the Patna–Hyderabad services scheduled for 11:05am, 6:53pm, 9:05pm and 11:25pm have been advised not to report to the airport.
Delhi-bound flights at 8:30am, 8:15pm and 11:10pm are also off the schedule, alongside Bengaluru departures at 8:25pm and 11:25pm. The cancellations extend further to the 9:25am flight to Kolkata, the 1:25pm service to Ghaziabad and the 11:20pm departure for Chennai.
As connectivity collapses, passengers are facing another blow: skyrocketing ticket prices. Despite government-mandated fare caps based on distance slabs, airlines continue to charge far higher rates. A Patna–Delhi ticket for Tuesday is priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000. SpiceJet is quoting Rs 28,000 on the Patna–Mumbai route, far above typical pricing.
IndiGo’s fares for Patna–Kolkata have touched Rs 14,000, while SpiceJet is charging up to Rs 24,000 for Patna–Hyderabad—despite the government’s ceiling of Rs 15,000. Travellers on the Patna–Bengaluru route are being quoted up to Rs 26,000, well above the prescribed Rs 18,000 limit.
The continuing cancellations have left thousands scrambling for alternatives, with ticket counters and online platforms struggling to manage the surge in demand. For many passengers, especially those travelling for medical appointments, studies or urgent work, the uncertainty shows no sign of easing.
