Patna/Munger: Police in Bihar’s Munger district have launched a new security initiative aimed at improving safety for school and college students, with dedicated patrol teams set to operate around educational institutions.
The district’s superintendent of police, Syed Imran Masood, said the decision to deploy the “Abhaya Brigade” had been taken in line with instructions from the state police headquarters to reinforce preventive policing. The teams will regularly patrol areas around schools and colleges to deter harassment and other antisocial activities. According to the superintendent, the primary objective of the Abhaya Brigade is to instil a sense of security among women and students. “Any complaint will be acted upon without delay,” he said.
Masood said the initiative would be directly monitored by his office, with the officer in charge of the women’s police station appointed as the nodal officer for the programme. Senior police officials will also conduct field visits and engage with students, parents and local residents to identify concerns and ensure prompt responses.
The police have completed investigations into pending cases related to crimes against women at the women’s police station and other units in the district, officials said.
Parents and educational institutions have welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step towards improving safety and confidence in public spaces around campuses.
