Patna: Bihar put in a strong and confident showing at the All India Civil Services (AICS) Athletics Championship, winning a total of four medals, including three gold and one silver, as the event concluded on Tuesday at the Patliputra Sports Complex. The national-level championship brought together a large number of participants, with 702 men, 328 women and 54 senior officers competing in different age groups and track-and-field events over several days.
The highlight of Bihar’s campaign was the outstanding performance of its women athletes, who played a key role in the state’s success. Anjani Kumari delivered a dominant display in the women’s open javelin throw to win the gold medal, comfortably outperforming competitors from other states and institutions. Shivani Kumari added another gold to Bihar’s tally by finishing first in the women’s open 1500 metre race, showing strong endurance and control throughout the event.
Bihar also picked up a silver medal through Rinki Kumari, who finished second in the women’s 200 metre race. Her performance was widely praised, as she competed against experienced runners from several strong teams. In the men’s events, Sunny Kumar brought further glory to the state by winning gold in the long jump, marking Bihar’s only top finish in the men’s category.
The championship saw medals being shared among many states and institutions, underlining the competitive nature of civil services sports in India. Haryana won the veteran men’s 4×100 metre relay, while Uttarakhand claimed gold in the women’s relay event. Athletes from Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi and various Reserve Bank of India Sports Board units also featured prominently on the podium. Overall, Bihar’s medal-winning performance, especially by its women athletes, stood out as a proud moment for the state at this national sporting event.
