Nalanda University To Host Book Exhibition In Rajgir As It Launches New Net Zero Executive Programme

Nalanda University will open a public book exhibition in Rajgir on December 26, alongside the launch of its first executive certificate course on net zero strategy, underscoring a twin focus on community outreach and contemporary global challenges. Library-led initiative with the National Book Trust aims to widen access to reading, even as the university begins an executive course on climate strategy.

Rajgir: Nalanda University’s City Campus in Rajgir will host a six-day book exhibition from December 26, marking a renewed push to promote reading and knowledge-sharing beyond the classroom, even as the institution expands its professional education offerings with a new programme on climate action.

The exhibition, jointly organised by the Nalanda University Library and the National Book Trust, will be inaugurated at 11 am on December 26 by the university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Sachin Chaturvedi, along with the district magistrate of Nalanda. It will remain open to the public until December 31, from 10 am to 5 pm each day.

Nearly 2,000 books will be on display, with a special focus on children up to Class X. The collection spans literature, science, history, environmental studies and general knowledge. Local schools and women’s self-help groups have been invited to attend the inaugural event, reflecting an effort to broaden participation and strengthen links with the surrounding community.

University officials said the exhibition is intended not only to encourage reading habits among students, but also to make quality learning material accessible to families and young readers in the region.

Alongside this outreach initiative, Nalanda University on Thursday launched its inaugural Executive Certificate Course in Net Zero Strategy at its main campus. The programme has drawn more than 60 professionals from a range of sectors, signalling growing interest in sustainability, climate governance and low-carbon development pathways.

Designed as a practice-oriented course, the programme focuses on net zero transitions, climate policy frameworks, sustainable finance and strategic decision-making, with the aim of equipping participants to respond to emerging environmental and regulatory challenges.

Taken together, the two initiatives highlight Nalanda University’s attempt to balance its historic role as a centre of learning with contemporary priorities—linking community engagement through books and libraries with advanced professional education aligned to national and global climate goals.
