Patna: Patna witnessed a series of thefts on Thursday, with three separate incidents reported from different parts of the city, including a high-value burglary at a doctor’s locked residence that resulted in losses estimated at around Rs 15 lakh.
The most significant incident was reported from Nehru Nagar under the Patliputra police station area, where thieves broke into the home of Dr Raghavendra Kumar while the house was unoccupied. According to the complaint, the burglars made away with approximately Rs 15 lakh in cash, along with gold jewellery, silver ornaments, old silver coins and expensive clothing, including Banarasi and silk sarees.
Dr Kumar told police that he had locked the house on November 27 and travelled to Delhi, where his wife was undergoing medical treatment. When he returned on December 20, he found the lock broken and valuables missing. Police inspected the premises, examined CCTV footage from the area and launched an investigation.
In a second incident, thieves targeted a two-wheeler showroom in the Gardanibagh police station area. The showroom owner, Abhishek Sinha, said he had closed the establishment at around 7 pm on December 19. When he reopened it the next morning, he discovered that the main gate lock had been cut and cash and electronic items stolen.
According to the complaint, Rs 1.25 lakh in cash, a laptop and two silver coins were taken. CCTV footage showed a masked man breaking the lock, entering the showroom and leaving with the stolen items. The battery of a promotional vehicle parked outside the showroom was also stolen, an act captured on camera.
The third theft was reported from Kailasham Apartment in Kankarbagh, where burglars entered a flat by removing a window grille. The resident, Sanjeev Kumar, told police that a laptop, car and scooter keys, and a purse containing around Rs 8,000 in cash were stolen from his flat.
Police at the respective stations have registered first information reports and said investigations are under way in all three cases. Officers are analysing CCTV footage and local intelligence to identify those responsible, amid concerns over a rise in property crimes in the city during the winter months.
