Hajipur/Patna: A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death and another seriously injured late on Wednesday night in Hajipur after a dispute over not giving way to another vehicle spiralled into violence, police said.
The incident occurred in the Marmala Chanwar area under Sadar police station limits. The victim, Chandrashekhar Kumar, a resident of Badhdiha village in Vaishali district, was travelling with his friend Manish Kumar when the altercation took place. Both men were rushed to Hajipur Sadar Hospital by a Dial 112 police team, before Chandrashekhar was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital because of the severity of his injuries. He later died during treatment. Manish Kumar remains hospitalised.
According to Manish Kumar, the two had been returning home in a Duster car after attending a feast at a friend’s house in Hajipur. While overtaking another vehicle, their car brushed against a black Fortuner.
“The people in the Fortuner got out and began attacking us with knives,” Manish Kumar said. “They smashed our car window and stabbed Chandrashekhar in the stomach. He collapsed unconscious. We somehow managed to get away, but the attackers fled with our Duster.”
Police said the assailants escaped from the scene after the attack, taking the victims’ vehicle with them. A search operation has been launched to trace those involved.
Ranveer Kumar Jha, station house officer of Sadar police station, said the violence appeared to have been triggered by a road rage incident. “Angered by not being given way, the occupants of the other vehicle assaulted and stabbed the occupants of the car. Chandrashekhar later died during treatment in Patna,” he said, adding that an investigation was under way and efforts were being made to identify and arrest the attackers.
