Patna: Nalanda University has begun admissions for a new round of short-term certificate courses in 13 languages, including Sanskrit, Korean, French and German, as part of its spring 2026 programme. The initiative is designed to make global language skills more accessible while expanding awareness of India’s historic intellectual traditions.
The courses — open to anyone who has completed Class 12 — cost Rs. 3000 for a six-month semester, positioning them among the lowest-priced foreign language offerings in India. Teaching will be delivered by specialist faculty, the university said.
Most language programmes will be taught online, enabling participation from students and working professionals outside Rajgir. However, courses in yoga and spoken English will take place in person at the campus, with training in traditional practices such as pranayama, asana and meditation.
Alongside languages, Nalanda is offering specialist online programmes in subjects such as archaeology of Nalanda Mahavihara, disaster management, geoinformatics, Buddhist philosophy and ancient Indian logic. These courses run from six weeks to one semester.
The university said the initiative aligns with its community education policy and seeks to continue the legacy of the ancient Nalanda centre of learning, once a magnet for scholars from across Asia.
