Patna: The buying and selling of land and flats in Patna Sadar or town area has slowed markedly this year.
Official data show that 2,485 fewer property documents were registered during the current financial year compared with the same period last year, resulting in a revenue shortfall of Rs 61.84 crore.
In the financial year 2024–25, up to December last year, the Patna Sadar registration office recorded 18,435 documents, generating Rs 457.20 crore in revenue. This year, registrations up to December stand at 15,950, yielding Rs 395.36 crore. Against a full-year target of Rs 714.81 crore, only about 45 per cent of the expected revenue has been collected so far.
Officials point to a sustained slowdown since July. Monthly registrations fell from 2,362 in July to 1,990 in August and dropped sharply to 1,200 in September. Although there was a modest recovery in October with 1,701 documents and 1,669 in November, registrations slid again in December, with only 868 documents recorded up to December 23.
The contrast with last year is stark. In July 2023, the office registered 2,413 documents, followed by 2,664 in August and 2,451 in September. October saw 2,261 registrations, November 1,832, and 1,847 documents were registered up to December 23.
