Patna: Upendra Kushwaha, chief of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), has reportedly sent a proposal to appoint his daughter-in-law, Sakshi Mishra, as vice-chair of the Bihar State Citizens’ Council, intensifying allegations of nepotism within the party. A rebel MLA, speaking anonymously, alleged that Kushwaha is prioritising family placements over organisational stability. “The proposal for Sakshi Mishra’s name has already gone to the BJP,” the MLA claimed.
The Bihar State Citizens’ Council was constituted ahead of the last state elections, chaired by the Chief Minister and featuring two vice-chair positions. Anand, fielded by the RLM from Madhubani, won his assembly seat, leaving the post unoccupied. Party insiders claim Kushwaha has now recommended Mishra to fill it, with the proposal believed to have been sent to the BJP for approval.
The development comes at a turbulent moment for Kushwaha. Although he succeeded in securing a cabinet berth for his son in the Nitish Kumar government, three of the RLM’s four legislators have since adopted a rebellious stance. The party is widely seen as being on the brink of a significant split, with leaders openly challenging Kushwaha’s decisions and leadership style.

For now, there has been no official response from the BJP or confirmation from Kushwaha regarding the reported recommendation. The move, if confirmed, could further deepen internal fractures and reshape the party’s relationship with the ruling alliance.
