Patna: The Bihar Police has started the New Year with a step aimed at making it easier for ordinary people to reach the police. The police headquarters has released two mobile numbers linked to the Director General of Police (DGP) control room, where citizens can call at any time to report problems, register complaints or share information. Officials say the initiative is meant to strengthen trust between the police and the public and ensure faster action on serious issues.

According to the Bihar Police headquarters, the helpline will work 24 hours a day and will be monitored by the DGP control room. The two numbers released for public use are 9031829339 and 9031829340. People from any district in Bihar can call these numbers to report crimes, delays in police action or other concerns related to law and order. The police have said that complaints received through the helpline will be sent to the concerned district officials for quick follow-up.

Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar said the police would continue to act strictly against criminals across the state. He warned that anyone who openly challenges the police or threatens public safety will face strong legal action. The DGP said that in some situations, police are forced to fire in self-defence while dealing with armed criminals. He referred to a recent incident in Phulwari Sharif, where a criminal was injured during police retaliation, to explain the difficult situations officers sometimes face on the ground.

The DGP also said that crime rates in Bihar are coming down. According to him, Patna has seen a drop of nearly 25% in different types of crime, and similar improvements have been recorded in other parts of the state. However, he expressed concern about the growing problem of drug abuse and cybercrime, especially among young people. He said the police are taking continuous action against drug smugglers and cyber criminals, and several arrests have already been made. Officials believe the new helpline will help the police respond faster and involve citizens more closely in keeping Bihar safe.

  • Nitish Kumar met Samrat Choudhary at the CM residence in Patna, marking their first in-person interaction after the leadership change. The brief 20-minute meeting focused on Bihar’s political climate and administrative matters, with senior leaders also present, signaling coordinated discussions within the government.

Photos from the meeting showed a cordial atmosphere, including a moment where Kumar placed his hand on Choudhary’s shoulder—described as a gesture of guidance. The interaction has drawn attention amid ongoing political developments in the state.

The liquor prohibition policy remained a key topic, with Choudhary reaffirming its strict enforcement and linking it to Kumar’s legacy, while also citing support from Narendra Modi. However, voices like Anant Singh continue to question its effectiveness, keeping the debate alive even as the government signals no immediate change.

  • The Bihar government is set to roll out an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), bringing AI-powered surveillance and automation to roads across the state. From highways to city intersections, smart cameras will detect violations like overspeeding, red-light jumping, and not wearing helmets or seatbelts—making enforcement faster and more efficient.

Beyond traffic control, the system will use facial recognition to identify repeat offenders and assist police in tracking suspects. With 500–700 locations planned and a central control hub supported by district-level monitoring centres, authorities aim to strengthen both road safety and law enforcement.

With an estimated cost of ₹300 crore, the project will also feature real-time incident alerts and adaptive traffic signals to reduce congestion. While it promises smarter roads and quicker response times, it also raises important questions about privacy and data security.

  • WhatsApp is working on a powerful new feature called “After Reading” that could completely change how we message. With this update, users will be able to make messages disappear automatically after they’ve been seen, giving more control over privacy and conversations.

Unlike current disappearing messages, this feature focuses on when the message is actually read. Users may get options like 5 minutes, 1 hour, or even 12 hours after viewing—making it easier to manage sensitive chats and keep things temporary.

Though still in development, this update signals a big step toward smarter and safer messaging. If rolled out successfully, it could redefine how we share information online.
