PATNA – Following the release of instructions by the Bihar Education Department, there was an initial increase in school attendance among children. However, sustaining this improvement has proven challenging. In response, the Education Department has issued further instructions to maintain continuous school attendance.
District Education Officer Sanjay Kumar addressed this matter in a recently issued letter. The directive emphasizes the need to guarantee 100 percent attendance and the retention of enrollment in all government schools.
The letter specifies that, in alignment with departmental instructions, attendance records will now feature two columns. One column will account for attendance exceeding 90 percent, while the other will document attendance below that threshold.
For schools with less than 90 percent attendance, the headmaster is required to identify the classes experiencing lower student attendance. The letter mandates an exploration of the reasons for the decrease and identification of the responsible class teacher. If attendance falls below 90 percent due to teacher neglect, disciplinary action will be taken against both the class teacher and the headmaster.
Furthermore, the Block Education Officer of the concerned block will be called upon for clarification. In cases where no improvement is observed, action will be taken against the Block Education Officer.
According to information from the Education Department, 74,279 student enrollments have been canceled in the district thus far. District Education Officer Sanjay Kumar revealed that out of this number, 11,193 students are enrolled in classes 9th to 12th. Additionally, 702 students are at risk of being excluded from Matriculation Inter examinations this year.
