Gaya: Railway Police in Bihar’s Gaya district has arrested three accused in a gold robbery case involving approximately Rs 2.92 crore worth of gold and recovered 612.74 grams of the stolen metal, along with four mobile phones.

The case concerns the alleged robbery of 2 kg and 6 grams of gold from Sanjeev Chauhan, an employee of a jewellery firm based in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. He was travelling from Kolkata to Bareilly aboard the Chambal Express when two unidentified men allegedly posed as officials and took the gold from him near Bhabua Road railway station.

Following the incident, a special investigation team (SIT) was constituted by the Patna Railway Police to identify the suspects, recover the stolen gold and investigate the possible involvement of others.

Three Accused Arrested In Uttar Pradesh

According to information provided by the police, the SIT expanded its investigation using technical evidence, surveillance and intelligence inputs.

Police teams conducted raids at several locations in Uttar Pradesh and arrested three accused from Bareilly, Shahjahanpur and Kasganj.

Investigators are questioning the arrested men to establish the circumstances of the robbery and determine whether other individuals were involved.

Police have also launched searches for additional suspects who remain at large.

How The Gold Robbery Allegedly Took Place

The incident occurred while Sanjeev Chauhan, an employee of a jewellery firm in Bareilly, was returning from Kolkata with gold aboard the Chambal Express.

According to the police account, two men allegedly approached him near Bhabua Road railway station and posed as officials to gain his confidence.

The men allegedly took 2 kg and 6 grams of gold from the employee before escaping.

The robbery was subsequently reported to the police, and a case was registered at Bhabua Railway Police Station under the relevant legal provisions.

Given the value of the stolen property, Patna Railway Police formed a special investigation team to pursue the case.

Police Recover 612.74 Grams Of Gold And Four Phones

During the investigation, police recovered 612.74 grams of gold believed to be part of the stolen property. Four mobile phones were also seized from the accused.

The recovered gold represents part of the approximately 2.006 kg reported stolen in the incident.

Police are continuing efforts to recover the remaining gold and establish whether the seized phones contain evidence relevant to the case.

The investigation is also examining whether other individuals assisted in carrying out the robbery or handling the stolen property.

Search Continues For Remaining Gold And Other Suspects

With three arrests made, Railway Police is continuing its investigation to identify any additional suspects and recover the remaining stolen gold.

The authorities are relying on evidence gathered during the investigation and questioning of the arrested accused to establish the full sequence of events.

The case remains under investigation, and further details about the alleged roles of the accused and the recovery of the remaining gold are awaited.
