Danapur: Panic gripped Danapur’s Gola Road on Wednesday night after a speeding Thar SUV allegedly driven by an intoxicated man ran over pedestrians and rammed into multiple vehicles, leaving at least four people, including a woman, seriously injured.

The incident occurred in the VIP area of Gola Road, where the SUV was reportedly being driven at high speed. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle mowed down people walking along the road and also collided with a motorcycle, triggering chaos at the scene.

Following the accident, angry locals set the black Thar on fire and assaulted the driver, leading to further commotion. Visuals from the spot showed the vehicle engulfed in flames as people gathered in large numbers.

The injured were immediately rushed to the Danapur sub-divisional hospital. Due to the seriousness of their injuries, they were later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for advanced treatment.

Driver Allegedly Intoxicated

According to preliminary information, the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The SUV reportedly hit several vehicles in succession before ploughing into pedestrians.

On receiving information, Danapur police rushed to the spot and alerted the fire department. Fire tenders reached the area and doused the flames, preventing the fire from spreading further.

Danapur police station in-charge Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj said that a four-wheeler had rammed into multiple vehicles, injuring several people. “The vehicle was set on fire by locals, and the fire was later brought under control by the fire brigade. An investigation is underway, and CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being examined,” he said.

Police are continuing their probe to establish the sequence of events and confirm the driver’s condition at the time of the crash.
