Patna: Patna is currently experiencing extremely cold weather, which has raised concerns for the health and safety of young children. To prevent any risk of cold-related illnesses, the District Magistrate of Patna, Dr Thiyagarajan S.M., has issued an official order to close all government and private schools, including Anganwadi centres and pre-schools, for students up to Class VIII. The closure will remain in effect from 9 January to 11 January 2026.
The administration has made it clear that classes for students in Classes IX and above will continue, but with adjusted timings between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm. Senior students preparing for pre-board and board examinations are allowed to attend special classes and exams during this period. This decision aims to balance student safety with the continuation of important academic activities.
School authorities have been instructed to reschedule their academic activities in accordance with the new timings. Parents have also been advised to ensure that children are dressed warmly and take all necessary precautions when stepping out. The district administration stressed that the safety and well-being of children remain the top priority during this cold spell.
The decision follows earlier warnings about the severe drop in temperature in the region. Officials will continue to monitor the weather closely and take further steps if necessary to protect students and residents. The move is being seen as a precautionary measure to safeguard children from the harsh winter conditions affecting the city.
