Patna: The Janata Dal (United), led by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, has expelled 12 of its leaders for a period of six years, accusing them of working against the party and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates during the recent assembly elections.
The disciplinary action follows an internal inquiry conducted by a committee constituted by the party to examine allegations of indiscipline and anti-party activities. The expulsions were approved on the basis of the committee’s findings, party sources said.

Those expelled include former Aurangabad MLA Ashok Singh; Sanjeev Kumar Singh from Aurangabad; Pramod Sada from Saharsa; Sanjay Kushwaha and Kamala Kushwaha from Siwan; former Jehanabad district president Gopal Sharma, also known as Shashibhushan Kumar; Mahendra Singh, Ghulam Murtaza Ansari and Amit Kumar Pammu from Jehanabad; Awadhesh Lal Dev from Darbhanga; and Jamilur Rahman, block president of Koch in Gaya district.
The move comes amid signs of internal strain within the party as it seeks to consolidate its organisation ahead of future political challenges in the state.
Separately, the JD(U) sought to project an image of continuity and grassroots engagement under CM Nitish’s leadership. The party’s national spokesperson, Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, said on Friday that the chief minister’s ongoing tours across Bihar were aimed at reconnecting governance with public feedback.
Prasad said CM’s political approach was rooted in dialogue with ordinary citizens, adding that his travels allowed for a direct review of existing welfare schemes and an on-ground assessment of development projects. “This process not only helps in evaluating current initiatives but also shapes future planning in line with Bihar’s reconstruction and long-term needs,” he said.
CM Nitish has in recent weeks stepped up district-level visits, which the party says are intended to reinforce accountability and refine policy decisions based on public input.
