Patna: Good news has emerged for lakhs of young people from Mithilanchal who dream of becoming teachers. The Maithili language is likely to be included in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), one of the most important exams for government teaching jobs in India. This long-pending demand has moved closer to reality after a proposal related to Maithili was passed in a meeting of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The information was shared by BJP MP from Darbhanga, Dr Gopal Ji Thakur.
Speaking about the development, Dr Thakur said that the effort to include Maithili in CTET has now reached a decisive stage. He explained that once Maithili is formally included, candidates whose mother tongue is Maithili will be able to appear for the CTET examination in their own language. This will help students understand questions better and perform with greater confidence, especially those from rural areas who have studied mainly in Maithili.
The decision is expected to benefit Maithili-speaking youth not only in Bihar but also in other parts of the country where the language is spoken. Many aspirants have struggled in the past because they were forced to take the exam in Hindi or other languages. Writing the exam in their mother tongue will make the process fairer and more inclusive, giving equal opportunity to talented candidates who were earlier at a disadvantage.
Dr Thakur described the move as a historic step for the youth of Darbhanga and the entire Mithilanchal region. He said it would help strengthen the identity of the Maithili language and create new opportunities in the field of education and employment. The MP also said that he has been continuously raising this issue since becoming a member of parliament, through letters, meetings and discussions with education authorities.
On this occasion, Dr Thakur thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their support. He said their positive approach made it possible for the proposal to move forward. He also shared the update on social media, calling it an important milestone for Maithili language and culture. If the process is completed soon, the inclusion of Maithili in CTET will mark a proud moment for Mithilanchal and a new chapter for Maithili-speaking students across the country.
