Patna: Authorities in Patna have announced a comprehensive security plan for the upcoming Saraswati Puja, including a complete ban on DJs and processions, heightened surveillance, and preventive action against potential disturbances.
District Magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan SM and Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma outlined the arrangements on Friday, emphasising strict monitoring before, during, and after the immersion of idols. Officers across the district – from SPs and SDPOs to municipal and block officials – have been instructed to ensure that preparations maintain law and order.
Officials are set to engage with peace committees, coordinate with stakeholders, and deploy police and magistrates according to established norms. The district’s intelligence network will remain active, while the social media monitoring cell will operate 24/7 to counter rumours. Preventive action is to be taken against individuals who have previously caused disruptions.
Crowds will be monitored through CCTV cameras, with flex banners warning the public that surveillance is in place. Drones will also be used, and Quick Response Teams (QRT) and Quick Medical Response Teams (QMRT) will be on standby to address emergencies. Loudspeakers will be allowed only at prescribed decibel levels between 6am and 10pm, while DJs are completely prohibited.
Special vigilance will be maintained in sensitive areas, including hostels. Police officers will conduct foot marches and meet with residents to warn that any law-and-order issues will lead to strict action. Hotels, lodges, and hostels will be regularly checked for suspicious activity.
All puja committees must have valid licences, and unlicensed idols, pandals, or processions will not be permitted. Immersion routes will remain fixed, and videography of the processions will ensure compliance. CCTV monitoring will be mandatory at large pandals, while patrol teams and drone surveillance will accompany immersion processions at artificial pond ghats.
To improve coordination, officials have instructed the creation of WhatsApp groups in each subdivision, including local youth and prominent citizens. The use of objectionable slogans, cartoons, or fireworks during the celebrations is strictly prohibited.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious information to the District Control Room at 0612-2219810 or 2219234, or to the emergency number 112.
