Patna: A domestic argument over a religious procession ended in tragedy in Patna on Wednesday, when a husband attacked his wife with a grinding stone, killing her.
The incident took place in the Machhli Gali area, under the jurisdiction of Shastri Nagar police station. According to local residents, the couple, originally from Jehanabad, had been involved in minor disputes in the past. On Wednesday, an argument erupted after the wife participated in a Sai Shobha Yatra, a religious procession, which her husband reportedly disapproved of.
Neighbours described the attack as sudden and brutal. The seriously injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. Her body has been sent to IGIMS for post-mortem examination.
Saket Kumar, SDPO Secretariat 2, confirmed that the dispute arose over the wife’s participation in the procession. “During the argument, the husband inflicted serious injuries on her. We are investigating the circumstances of the attack,” he said.
The husband is currently in police custody, and authorities are questioning him while investigating the incident. Neighbours expressed shock at the escalation, noting that while the couple had minor disagreements before, no one anticipated such extreme violence.
The case has once again highlighted the persistent problem of domestic violence in Patna. Police have appealed for cooperation from family members and neighbours and warned of strict action against the perpetrator.
