Bihar Cabinet Sanctions Rs 702 Crore for Metro Rail Feasibility Studies in Four Cities
Patna: In a significant move to bolster urban mobility, the Bihar State Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has approved Rs 702 crore for feasibility studies, a comprehensive mobility plan, and an alternative analysis report for the development of metro rail networks in Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur.
The Urban Development and Housing Department has selected RITES Limited to conduct these feasibility and assessment studies. This decision follows the cabinet meeting on June 20, where the extension of the metro system beyond Patna was greenlit, paving the way for the introduction of metro services in these four cities.
The ongoing Patna Metro Rail Project is progressing well, with the first phase scheduled for completion by 2026. The project aims to decongest the city’s roads, reduce traffic pollution, and provide a faster, more efficient mode of transport for its residents. The Patna Metro, upon completion, will feature two corridors connecting important hubs across the city, thus significantly enhancing urban mobility.
The expansion of the metro rail network to Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur is expected to bring similar benefits to these cities, supporting economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.
