Patna: Weather conditions in Bihar are expected to change within the next 24 hours, with the issuance of rain and thunderstorm warnings for parts of the state. According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, alerts have been issued for around 15 districts, including East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, Siwan, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Sheohar, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Araria, Kishanganj, Samastipur and Buxar.
Officials said these areas could witness thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall and gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30–40 km per hour. Cloudy conditions are likely to prevail in some districts, particularly in north Bihar, where light rain is possible on Wednesday.
Meteorologists said renewed snowfall in the Himalayan region could intensify cold conditions across Bihar in the coming days. A further drop in night temperatures is expected, with a fog alert issued for several districts from January 29.
Dense fog is likely to affect parts of north and central Bihar during the morning hours, including West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Vaishali, Patna and Begusarai. Visibility may be significantly reduced during early hours, officials warned.
The foggy conditions are expected to persist for two to three days from January 29, though meteorologists said visibility should gradually improve as the day progresses, with sunshine likely by late morning or afternoon.
In Patna and several other parts of the state, weather conditions are forecast to remain dry with partly cloudy skies. Maximum temperatures are expected to fall by 2–4°C after the next 24 hours, while westerly winds may bring a noticeable chill during mornings and evenings.
According to meteorologists, the fluctuating weather pattern is being driven by an active Western Disturbance over north-west India. The system is bringing moisture-laden winds into the region, increasing cloud cover and raising the likelihood of rainfall in northern districts. Combined with higher humidity and falling night temperatures, the conditions are expected to make the cold more pronounced, particularly during early mornings and evenings.
