Siwan: A strong cold wave and thick fog have badly affected train services across north Bihar, creating chaos for passengers at Siwan Junction. On Tuesday, at least eight trains passing through the station were cancelled, while many others arrived several hours late. Because of poor visibility, train drivers were forced to reduce speed, which caused long delays across the rail network. As a result, passengers waiting to begin or end their journeys had to spend long hours on cold platforms, struggling to stay warm.
The worst delay was faced by the 02570 New Delhi–Darbhanga Clone Humsafar Special, which reached Siwan more than 15 hours late. The 15566 Vaishali Express was delayed by seven hours and 30 minutes, while the 15708 Amrapali Express arrived over five hours late. The 02564 New Delhi–Barauni Clone Humsafar Special was delayed by nearly seven hours, and the 02569 Darbhanga–New Delhi Clone Humsafar Special ran almost four hours behind schedule. These long delays disrupted travel plans for thousands of passengers.
Several other major trains were also affected. The Bagh Express (13020 and 13019) was delayed by one to two hours, while the 15110 Mathura–Chhapra Express arrived nearly two hours late. The Avadh Assam Express (15909) was delayed by more than an hour, and the Amritsar–Saharsa Jansadharan Express reached three and a half hours late. Even the Thawe–Siwan Passenger and the Lichchavi Express did not escape the impact, both running behind schedule.
Passengers complained about the lack of proper information and basic facilities at the station. Many said they were not told about cancellations or delays on time and had to wait without knowing when their trains would arrive. Railway officials said the fog and cold weather forced them to slow down trains to ensure safety. They advised passengers to check train updates before travelling, as the cold weather is likely to continue and more delays may occur in the coming days.
