Patna: Matriculation examinations began across Bihar on Tuesday amid heightened security and stringent guidelines issued by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB). Students arrived at their designated centres early in the morning, with authorities enforcing strict entry protocols and anti-cheating measures.
In a distinctive gesture, four model examination centres for female students have been set up in each district. At these centres, candidates were welcomed with flowers and sandalwood, officials said, as part of an effort to create a supportive and reassuring atmosphere.
The board has prohibited students from wearing shoes and socks inside examination halls, directing them to appear in slippers instead. Mobile phones and other electronic devices are strictly banned, and entry of unauthorised persons into examination premises has been prohibited.
To ensure transparency, the board has specified timelines for the submission of OMR sheets and answer booklets. District magistrates, superintendents of police and other administrative officials have been instructed to enforce the guidelines rigorously.

The first shift of the examination began at 9.30am, with the second scheduled for 2pm. On the opening day, students appeared for their mother tongue papers, including Hindi, Bengali, Urdu and Maithili. The examination series will continue until February 25.
CCTV cameras and video recording systems have been installed at all examination centres to prevent malpractice. Authorities warned that students violating the dress code or other instructions could face denial of entry.
In Patna alone, 70 examination centres have been established for approximately 71,000 candidates. Four of these have been designated as model centres, equipped with help desks, improved seating arrangements, female staff and enhanced security measures.
Across the state, a total of 152 model centres have been created to provide what officials described as a safer and more structured environment for candidates during the examination period.
