Patna: A Rs 32 crore renovation and expansion of Jagjivan Stadium in Patna has been set in motion following an inspection by the general manager of East Central Railway, Chhatrasal Singh. The review took place during his visit to Danapur, where he assessed both the stadium site and the adjoining Madhubihar Railway Colony.
Singh began his inspection at the residential colony, evaluating sanitation standards, infrastructure and facilities available to railway employees. Expressing satisfaction with the overall cleanliness of the premises, he instructed officials to move forward with plans for a community hall and a children’s park to improve the quality of life for residents.
At Jagjivan Stadium, the general manager examined architectural drawings outlining the proposed redevelopment. The project includes construction of a modern hostel, a new pavilion and upgraded sports infrastructure. Officials were directed to ensure strict quality control and complete the work within the stipulated timeframe.
Speaking during the visit, Singh said the upgraded stadium would benefit railway staff, their families and young people in the surrounding community. He added that beyond providing transport services, Indian Railways was committed to contributing to social development by encouraging sports, teamwork and healthy lifestyles.
The visit also comes amid broader sports infrastructure efforts by the railway zone. Work has recently begun on the Amrit Bharat Railway Stadium at Konhara Ghat Railway Colony in Hajipur, a Rs 7.14 crore project expected to include modern cricket and football grounds. The Divisional Railway Manager of Danapur, Vinod Kumar, along with senior officials from the headquarters and division, were present during Saturday’s inspection.
