Patna: Patna-based weather officials say the pre-monsoon season has begun in Bihar and will remain active until the end of May. During this period, the sun’s gradual shift toward the Tropic of Cancer is expected to raise temperatures, while also increasing the likelihood of scattered showers, strong winds and thunderstorms.
March temperatures are projected to stay above normal, with maximum readings between 30–32°C. Rainfall, however, is expected to remain below average. The state typically records 10.4 mm of rain in March, but forecasters see little chance of significant precipitation this year. Officials in the meteorological centre in Patna say southern districts will experience greater heat than northern areas.
Most districts are likely to remain dry under the influence of western winds, which could reach speeds of up to 45 km/h. Daytime temperatures may range from 28–34°C, while nights could cool to 12–19°C. The weather service notes that mild morning and evening chill will persist, though conditions will gradually become warmer.
The lowest temperature recorded recently was 13.6°C in Sabour, a locality of Bhagalpur, while Patna logged a minimum of 19.1°C. On Sunday, the capital’s maximum temperature climbed by three degrees to 31.4°C. The highest reading in the state was 33.6°C in Motihari, and temperature drops were observed in ten districts, including Patna.
